Funding and capacity builders
I have worked with funders and other organisations, such as NCVO, interested in building capacity in civil society.
I can provide support for boards or management teams in this field with:
- Developing theories of change at organisation or programme level
- Impact strategy and impact review and development
- Researching the support and development needs of local and national charities
- Stakeholder consultation and desk research to inform development of “foresight” resources for wider use
Since 2017 I have been working for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation as a Critical Friend supporting 2 organisations (Leap Confronting Conflict and Just for Kids Law) over 3-4 years, funded via their Youth Strategic Investment Fund (previously the Growth Fund).
I also provide consultancy support for Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales’ ENHANCE programme as an associate.
When I work with you, I make your purpose my purpose.
Examples of my work for funders and capacity builders include:
- Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation: research, consultation and co-design work to inform Transitions in Later Life funding programme (with Bridget Pettitt & Liz Kwast).
- Charities Evaluation Services: was Chair of the Board leading wide range of capacity building support initiatives.
- Friends Provident Foundation: evaluation of financial inclusion funding programme (with Margaret Bolton).
- NCVO: range of projects on marketing, quality, strategic planning, the Compact, umbrella bodies, collaboration, evaluation of leadership development programme, exploration of marketing collaborations in the voluntary sector.
- People’s Health Trust: facilitation of development of 3 consecutive strategies.
- Quality Standards Task Group: research into funders and quality in the voluntary sector.
“Jean has acted in the capacity of ‘Critical Friend’ to organisations supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of our youth sector strategic Investment programme. She has a successful track record of supporting CEO’s and senior teams to reflect on the strategic direction of their organisation, to progress organisational plans and to develop the skills of organisational leaders in the social sector. In addition, Jean has worked with PHF funded organisations, and their Boards, to construct their Theory of Change and focus their energies on achieving their mission. Jean has developed a reputation as a valued facilitator and brings a wealth of experience and insight to her work as a consultant.”
